Best VPN Services to surf anonymously

Using a VPN is your best choice, if you answer 'Yes’ for any of the questions below.

  • Having problems with opening certain webpages like Facebook, Gmail, Google?
  • Your school, work or ISP blocked your favorite sites like Facebook, Hulu, Youtube?
  • Would you like to surf anonymously online?

In simple words, a VPN creates a secure (encrypted) tunnel between your computer and the VPN service provider. Through this tunnel whatever data flows is completely safe from the prying eyes of ISPs, hackers, monitoring agencies who might be tapping your online activities. So, whatever is the reason, if you came here looking for free VPN services, you’re at the right page.

Using proxies is highly risky and outdated and there is no guarantee that they will work at all. So, what can you do? Use a VPN client! We picked some of the best services in 2012.

2. Cyberghost

CyberGhost VPN offers all free users 1 GB bandwidth per month with some limitations. You’re disconnected every 6 hours from the service, after which you need to redial again. The speed is limited to 2 Mbps, which we think is more than enough for casual users. To start using their free services, you just need to download their client and follow instructions.

For subscribers CyberGhost provides instructions on how to set up an OpenVPN connection as well as configuration files for Windows, Linux, Mac OS, and Android.

Users with a Premium or Premium plus subscription, who want to use their Windows OS with CyberGhost and PPTP will also find an easy to understand How to. Besides that a free proxy is available at the service’s homepage.

The VPN operates with all Internet software available, including all browsers like Opera, Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Per default you can’t send out e-mails anonymously to prevent spam abuse of the service.

3. Panda Pow

PandaPow’s team has developed a user-friendly, reliable VPN, or Virtual Private Network. With their product, you can browse the web via their US-based virtual network. Unfortunately they offer very little servers and the speed you get when connected isn’t much satisfactory.

PandaPow gives you an option for UK/European IP addresses for all packages. PandaPow is easy to set up, and easy to use. They give money back guarantee means you can try them out and compare to other services. PandaPow has servers in only 3 countries and the price for the service is not low despite this fact.

Free bandwidth available: unlimited
Pricing: starting from 9$

Mobile VPN: Yes

4. Cactus VPN

There is not much info available about Cactus VPN but they come across as your average VPN provider. They have few servers but seem to be a stable provider with P2P allowed on their Netherlands server. The speed and performance of the network is really good, but you often run into bottlenecks on the servers from the Netherlands but that is not too common.

The client is easy to use and there are 3 servers to choose from (US, UK, NL). The servers in the US and UK work well, the NL server did slow in tests. Also, our upload speeds on other servers seemed to slow down every few minutes which we could not seem to resolve. The biggest problem beyond the upload speed was that the IP we got through Cactus is blocked across the web by OctoNet HTTP filter. That means website blocked us and that is the worst blunder of cactus. Worked well besides

Access locations: USA, UK, NE

Pricing: starting from 4,99$/month
